Alpine And Lotus Terminate Their Collaboration On A Future Electric Sports Car Project

May 23, 2023 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

There are supposedly no longer any plans for a jointly produced electric sports car between European niche automakers Alpine and Lotus. According to Automotive News Europe, the partnership ended amicably, though no explicit justification for the choice was given.

However, There Might Be Some Cooperation In Other Areas

In 2021, the partnership was declared. Alpine’s parent firm, Renault Group, announced at the time that Alpine will transform into a performance brand that only sold electric vehicles.

The idea was to have everything ready by the middle of the decade, with both brands sharing a next-generation electric sports car that was co-developed with Lotus. According to Lotus, who was quoted by Automotive News Europe, the business simply opted not to move further with the idea, while future collaboration is still conceivable.

It’s important to note that the report singles out the proposed sports vehicle project in particular. Future electric vehicle plans for Alpine include larger SUVs that might be built on Lotus platforms.

By “future electric ambitions,” we mean cars from Renault’s lineup that aren’t more imminent EVs, such a fast hatchback based on the new Renault 5 and a crossover called the GT X-Over.

Naturally, Lotus debuted the Eletre last year, the company’s first SUV, which was thought to serve as the framework for Alpine’s more substantial offerings. Initially, Alpine was going to release these SUVs later in the decade.

With its turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the current generation A110 is still very much in existence. The A110 R, the most recent model of the tiny sports car that made its debut in October 2022, is powered by a mid-mount engine that produces 300 horsepower.

It accelerates from zero to sixty miles per hour in less than four seconds while remaining a road-legal vehicle thanks to track-focused suspension and a hearty dose of carbon fiber. Road-legal, at least, in Europe.

Despite the fact that the current A110 won’t be available for purchase in North America until at least 2026, Renault is at least looking at other export possibilities.

In Celebration Of The Rally’s Success, Alpine Debuts The A110 San Remo 73 Edition

In Celebration Of The Rally’s Success, Alpine Debuts The A110 San Remo 73 Edition

March 17, 2023 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

The Alpine A110 San Remo 73 Edition commemorates the company’s first World Rally Championship, which included a triumph at the Italian rally with the same name. Only 200 of these unique models will be produced by the business, and they are being offered in France for $94,500 (or roughly equivalent €89,000). The opening date is March 17.

Alpine With Be Making 200 Examples OF It

The rally vehicle in that competition served as the design influence for the San Remo 73 Edition. Its exterior is primarily Original Caddy Blue, with black supports and a red carbon top. On the bonnet, lower doors, and beneath one taillight are black-and-white images.

It has 18-inch Grand Prix Brilliant Blanc rims and anthracite-finished Brembo brake calipers. The Alpine insignia are dark.

Gray stitching covers the microfiber fabric in the interior. The vehicle’s racing-inspired design is further enhanced by the Sabelt Racing one-piece chairs, sport pedals, and metal passenger footrest. The particular vehicle’s number, from 1 to 200, is displayed on a monument. An auto-dimming rearview reflector, front and back parking assistance, and a Focal Audio stereo are included as standard equipment with the special version.

A 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the San Remo 73 Edition, producing 300 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque. This enables it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds.

The A110’s special variant is the most recent rally-inspired model. Alpine introduced the Tour de Corse 75 in 2022. The model honored its victory at the 1975 Tour de Corse rally, as suggested by the moniker. With a black canopy and some white details, it had a mostly golden body. Only 150 examples were produced by the business, who paid €80,000 for them.

The most current iteration of the type from Alpine, the A110 R Fernando Alonso, retails for $157,127 (€148,000). Only 32 of them are being produced by the company. The racer’s autograph can be seen on the back quarter window of the dark blue vehicle. Along with the car, a copy of Alonso’s helmet has been autographed.
