At Unpacked 2024, Samsung Will Introduce Its First “AI Phone”

With the launch of the AI-powered Galaxy S24 smartphone series, Samsung Electronics showcases its in-house generative AI, called Samsung Gauss, and its on-device AI, called Galaxy AI, which enables operation without an internet connection.

With additional AI services, an AI phone’s capabilities go beyond those of a standard smartphone. The “Galaxy Unpacked 2024” event is set to take place in the SAP Center in San Jose, California, on January 18 at three in the morning KST.

Samsung will highlight the Galaxy S24 series as the next-generation smartphone and highlight that it is the first AI phone during the event. The company is committed to using AI developments to get beyond smartphone constraints.

Prior to Unpacked, one of the noteworthy AI offerings was real-time call translation. With Samsung Gauss integrated into the Galaxy S24, the translation service hopes to provide real-time translation of the other person’s call, in contrast to other services like Never Papago or Genie Talk that needed installation of separate apps.

Even if the other person doesn’t have an AI phone, this functionality still functions flawlessly. In essence, users may converse with an interpreter concurrently by selecting to listen to the translated chat in voice or view it in real-time as text.

Galaxy AI is essential to improving camera features, such as still images and motion pictures. Like the Galaxy S23 Ultra before it, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has an optical zoom of 100 times.

However, customers may now enjoy an expanded 150x camera zoom, a 1.5-times boost, thanks to the incorporation of Galaxy AI. Galaxy AI uses software correction to digitally enhance photos taken with the 100x optical zoom, producing better-looking images.

For this reason, the U.S. branch of Samsung Electronics has posted on its website that “Zoom with Galaxy AI is coming.”

Additionally, Galaxy AI helps with video and photo editing. When a topic is positioned off-center, Galaxy AI automatically stretches the backdrop to bring the subject into focus.

Features like taking a fresh backdrop picture or offering editing spots for easy tweaks may be included, especially when working with unsteady images or silent films.

A tool for summarizing material on websites or news items is Galaxy AI. It gives preference to using well-known terms, idioms, and sentences that people frequently use when summarizing.

It can also translate English or Chinese idioms discovered in an article upon selection, and it can quickly identify the species of a plant when clicked in a photo.
