MG Official Urges Industry To Rethink Pricing And Real Benefits For Consumers

As Pakistan unveils its long-awaited New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–30, aimed at reducing emissions and fuel dependence, voices from within the auto industry are calling for a shift in how new technologies are priced and positioned in the market.

In a recent interaction with media in Lahore, Syed Asif Ahmed, General Manager Marketing Division at MG Motors, said that while the policy is a step in the right direction, the local Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) market remains largely unaffordable and does not pass on the benefits of technological advancements to the average Pakistani consumer.

“HEVs in Pakistan have become a luxury for a niche market,” Ahmed remarked. “Despite policy support, the real advantages have not trickled down to car buyers.”

He noted that the most expensive HEV SUV in Pakistan—a seven-seater—carries an ex-factory price tag of Rs 16 million, while five-seater variants range from Rs 9.6 to 12 million.

“The industry must think seriously about affordability,” he added, “and consider shifting toward Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), which are better suited for urban use and offer real electric range.”

Unveiled by the Ministry of Industries, the NEV Policy 2025–30 introduces official classification for EVs, PHEVs, and hydrogen-powered vehicles as “New Energy Vehicles”—in line with global standards.

Ahmed was also critical of how earlier tax incentives were structured, allowing traditional hybrids to be labelled as “New Energy Vehicles”, primarily to benefit large automotive players.

“Unfortunately, these subsidies neither helped the environment nor the people. They only benefited the principal companies and their local partners.”

In contrast, PHEVs offer a more meaningful alternative, with pure EV driving capabilities for daily urban commutes and hybrid flexibility for long routes—helping tackle the range anxiety often associated with EVs.

MG Motors has taken a lead with the introduction of Pakistan’s first locally assembled Plug-in Hybrid SUV, the MG HS PHEV. It features a 16.6kWh lithium-ion battery offering over 52 km of electric-only range, combined with a 1.5L turbocharged engine to deliver 260 HP and 370 Nm of torque—achieving 0–100 km/h in just 7.1 seconds.

Priced under Rs 10 million, Ahmed described the MG HS PHEV as “the best value-for-money vehicle in its class,” offering advanced tech, performance, and fuel economy.

Asif informed that MG has sold more than 16,000 vehicles in Pakistani market so far out of which approximately 2000 were Plug In Hybrid vehicles (PHEV) as Pakistani customers are realizing the true economic benefit of PHEV as it’s a perfect urban mobility option for the urban consumers.

He says despite the changing trend of converting to PHEV from HEV Pakistani consumers have just one choice in the shape of MG HS PHEV, although having a better technology but still placed lower than most hybrids in Pakistan.

Asif said that MG leads specification leadership in Pakistan. All automakers now follow the global specs MG introduced in MG HS in both CBU & CKD. MG vehicles have crossed approximately 350 million miles since its launch in Pakistan in 2021, and MG HS has successfully tested for Pakistan’s fuel, terrain (road), and weather conditions, he added.

Asif said the vehicles in Pakistan are still expensive. Globally, hybrid vehicles deliver financial value when their purchase price does not exceed more than 10% of the cost of an equivalent petrol vehicle.

However, this benchmark is not practiced in the Pakistani market. Here, the price gap between hybrids and their petrol counterparts is significantly wider averaging around 45%.

For example, a C SUV hybrid vehicle costs up to Rs 12 million, while similar C SUV conventional petrol cars cost Rs 8.0 million. In Pakistan, the difference of price between hybrid and conventional petrol cars is approximately 4.0 million in the C SUV category.

While Pakistan’s NEV policy sets a progressive roadmap, industry execution remains key. With more PHEV models expected to enter the market, the question remains will automakers use these incentives to empower consumers—or repeat the hybrid playbook of high margins and minimal environmental gains?

“The potential is enormous,” Ahmed concluded. “But only if we prioritize real consumer value and environmental impact—over short-term profits.”

This is How Much Emission Testing Will Cost After The June 30th Deadline

The government now intends to transfer accountability to private car dealerships throughout the city, with the free Emission Testing System (ETS) program in Lahore scheduled to expire on June 30.

After the free service ends, ETS-related services will be contracted out to dealerships of all auto and vehicle manufacturing enterprises in Lahore, according to Environment Protection and Climate Change Department Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar.

These dealerships will have trained personnel to do emission testing and ETS equipment. Owners of vehicles must pay Rs. 400 for each test at these locations.

The agency thinks this approach will greatly boost the number of automobiles that are evaluated. According to Raja Jahangir Anwar, offering the service through approved dealerships would increase car owners’ comfort and efficiency, particularly since demand for the service keeps rising.

With 20 sites spread around Lahore, the ETS program was first introduced as a free service. Three squads are normally housed at each facility; nevertheless, lengthy lines and complaints of delays have brought attention to the system’s shortcomings.

After enough cars have been tested under the new approach, the government intends to expedite the emission testing procedure and proceed with wider enforcement.

BYD Will Be Launching Electric Cars In Pakistan On August 17

Leading Chinese producer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), BYD, and Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited, a division of Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO), will collaborate to have a major brand launch in Pakistan on August 17.

With this introduction, BYD’s passenger automobiles will be formally introduced to the Pakistani market.

According to specifics, billboards in the nation’s largest cities have been observed making references to BYD’s official launch. The goal of this agreement, which dates back to March when the strategic alliance was established, is to bring fully electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles to Pakistan, signaling the world’s leader in new energy vehicle sales for 2022 and 2023.

This project is anticipated to completely transform Pakistan’s automotive industry by offering state-of-the-art NEV solutions to a market hungry for environmentally friendly and economically viable modes of mobility.

According to reports, BYD is well-known for its innovative work in the manufacturing of new energy electric cars. In 2022 and 2023, it overtook competitors worldwide to take the top spot in sales of new energy vehicles.

In just over three years, BYD has gone from rolling out its one millionth new energy car in May 2021 to reaching the milestone of eight million vehicles, making it the first automotive brand in the world. At the Goodwood Festival Of Speed Red Bull Will Unveil The RB17 Hypercar

The Advanced Technologies division of Red Bull’s Formula 1 team announced intentions to introduce their own £5 million hypercar, designed by Newey, in June 2022.

The vehicle will have a V10 engine and a carbon fiber transmission mounted on a two-seat carbon fiber monocoque chassis. Red Bull built all 50 of the cars internally, and only those will be produced.

The RB17 will be introduced on Friday 12 July in the Cathedral paddock at Goodwood and be on display for the full event.

The hypercar will be part of the team’s F1 car heritage, since the RB17 name was dropped in favor of the RB16B for the 2021 model, which was necessary due to COVID-19-related part carryover.

Since Newey has stated he would be leaving the Formula One team in early 2025, this will also be his last vehicle for Red Bull.

Red Bull CEO Christian Horner stated, “We are thrilled to introduce the RB17 to the public for the first time and couldn’t think of a better global platform than Goodwood Festival of Speed.”

“The RB17 radiates superior engineering and uniqueness. We are eager for the audience to see the ultimate performance automobile that we have created using all we know about racing.

“I’m also equally excited to be showcasing such an incredible array of vehicles and drivers at the renowned event, and I’m looking forward to commemorating our 20th season in front of such ardent motorsport enthusiasts.”

At the Goodwood unveiling, Horner and Newey will be joined by 13-time grand prix winner and former Red Bull driver David Coulthard, as well as Patrick Friesacher, a former Minardi F1 driver and Red Bull’s longest-serving exhibition driver.

As part of its 20th anniversary festivities, Red Bull will also showcase a number of F1 vehicles from its past, some of which will participate in the hillclimb competition.

The creator of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Duke of Richmond, continued, “I am thrilled that Oracle Red Bull Racing will be joining us at the Festival of Speed this summer to celebrate their 20th anniversary.”

“I am honored that the Formula 1 team has selected the Festival of Speed as the location for the much-awaited public debut of the RB17 in this year’s poignant season.

With The 990 RC R, KTM Is Finally Bringing Back A Street Superbike

Now, everyone, take a big breath; this isn’t just another desperate April Fools’ joke. It’s also not a sophisticated new Punk’d episode on MTV. Why would you even assume that, because neither of us are famous in the first place?

No, this is a genuine motorbike. This motorbike is about to arrive. And I really couldn’t be happier about it. People, KTM is manufacturing street-legal superbikes once more, and right now, we have the first information and teaser pictures of the machine, and it looks insane.

Having said that, KTM will also introduce the 990 RC TRACK, a track-only, hard-core variant. The motorcycle will be “Crafted by KTM in their Austrian factory, the modifications strip away the road-legal essentials, incorporate protective components, fine-tune adjustments, customize further, and revise racing bodywork, including a full exhaust system.” A track-only model: why? Why not, that’s the reason.

While the complete model won’t be shown right away, KTM said that the 990 RC R will be “unveiled in early 2024 in the form of a prototype, making appearances as a wildcard entry in non-point scoring outings across select European Supersport series.”

The KTM 990 RC R is a ground-breaking innovation for individuals who thrive on the rush of cornering, according to Riaan Neveling, Head of KTM Global Marketing.

It’s meant for people who lean nearly knee-level with the road and then push the envelope by dragging their elbows across the racetrack’s surface. Power and reputation are available on this bike without the astronomical price. says KTM Global Marketing Head Riaan Neveling.

However, no information has been released on the price, weight, horsepower, torque, or any other specifications. All of it will probably happen closer to the debut date in 2025. The First EV From The Smartphone Manufacturer, The Xiaomi SU7, Sold Out For 2024 In 24 Hours

Late last week, the Xiaomi SU7 created a lot of excitement in China. It’s the first automobile produced by a firm best recognized for its consumer electronics on a global scale. Even so, a lot of people went to the company’s website to buy the battery-powered vehicle, which directly rivals the Tesla Model 3 despite the Chinese EV being somewhat more affordable and bigger.

It may take up to 21 weeks for the delivery of the SU7 Standard, which retails for 215,900 yuan ($29,900), and the SU7 Pro, which costs 245,000 yuan ($33,990).

Depending on the grade, the SU7’s electric motors—which Xiaomi developed internally—are either rear- or all-wheel drive. The high-voltage batteries, which provide a range of up to 515 miles (830 kilometers) on the CLTC process, are provided from either BYD or CATL. The automobile is built on an 800-volt architecture.

The automobile itself will be manufactured at a new Beijing facility under contract with China’s BAIC, with an initial production capacity of 150,000 vehicles annually and a second phase of 300,000 vehicles annually.

In China, the Xiaomi SU7 costs around $4,000 less than the Tesla Model 3, but it has more internal displays, a head-up display, a longer driving range, and a little more upscale interior with technology that syncs with Xiaomi’s consumer goods. Despite the existence of less expensive models such as the Zeekr 007, Xiaomi appears to have had success with its marketing campaign in what is perhaps the world’s most competitive EV industry.

Tesla Releases The Cybertruck’s First Software Upgrade

The world believed this was it when Tesla eventually debuted the much-anticipated and delayed futuristic Cybertruck. The Cybertruck was completed and prepared to upend our world, signaling the arrival of the future. Not quite so quickly, though.

As per Tesla’s custom, the Cybertruck departed the plant with unfulfilled expectations, disregarding all of the commitments it had made. Greetings from Beta Lifestyle.

To be honest, though, Cybertruck is an incredible electric car, whether you like it or not. There’s no other vehicle like it, for the simple reason that no other corporation would ever take the chance of even trying to imagine creating one, much less risking its future and releasing the product to the public.

This explains why it appears like Tesla has a devoted following of cult-like fans and a sizable client base. Now enough with the distraction; let’s get back to the Cybertruck.

Not all was as it seemed when the Cybertruck eventually left the factory and the first, although sluggish, deliveries began to arrive. After the much-discussed panel gap issues were resolved and the truck itself was built, the new owners soon discovered that the driving experience differed greatly from what they had learned from earlier Teslas. Furthermore, it was unrelated to the Cybertruck’s size.

To put it mildly, the truck arrived with very little software. It was equipped with all the standard features you would expect from a modern automobile, but not the ones you had hoped for when you paid more than €90,000.

In addition to new interface visuals, the Cybertruck still lacks specialized software. More significantly, Autopilot is deficient in certain areas, and FSD is completely unavailable.

Fortunately, Tesla is aware of the problems and is attempting to resolve them. The first significant software upgrade for all previously sold Cybetruck machines was just delivered by the firm. Getting an update consists of two key parts: driving dynamics and charging dynamics.

The Cybertruck will adapt the charger’s charging output based on the battery condition when it is plugged into a supercharger. When a battery is located using navigation, battery preconditioning begins automatically. This should safeguard the battery and improve the efficiency of the charging process.

For a number of years, we have been aware that Yamaha is eager to explore hydrogen as a potential substitute fuel. Team Blue and Kawasaki declared their intention to collaborate on the development of hydrogen engines in January 2022. Subsequently, after a month, we discovered that Toyota was planning to collaborate on a 5-liter V8 hydrogen engine.

Yoshihiro Hidaka, president of Yamaha, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to investigating hydrogen development as a potential substitute fuel source by July 2023.

Of course, we also can’t overlook the HySE experimental rally car that Yamaha, together with Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Toyota, contributed to constructing, especially since the 2024 Dakar Rally was just written into history.

On January 25, 2024, a future date, Yamaha formally unveiled their first-ever hydrogen-powered concept car. Drive H2 was exhibited by the company at the 2024 Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Show in Florida.

Two 25-liter high-pressure hydrogen fuel tanks are needed for operation. One of the tanks is located beneath the driver’s seat, while the other is in the back of the car. It is based on the Drive2 Concierge 4 personal golf vehicle that is now available for purchase from Yamaha Golf-vehicle Company, a division of Yamaha Motor Corporation.

Naturally, the growth of hydrogen vehicles in any area will depend on the infrastructure being in place to support them. People who are interested in any form of electric car have also encountered that in recent years.

What About Motorcycles Powered by Hydrogen?

Although Yamaha has stated that it is interested in investigating the potential of hydrogen power for applications beyond low-speed golf cars (or golf carts), it appears that Suzuki and Kawasaki are the only two businesses that have unveiled designs for hydrogen-powered two-wheeled vehicles thus far.

Remember that January is still early. There are still 11 months remaining in the year, and a lot may happen in a short amount of time.
