The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor Adds Apple Intelligence Functionality

Qualcomm’s newest and best CPU, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, is a powerful tiny silicon device. Therefore, a recently found intriguing snippet of code suggests that the Galaxy S25 Ultra may include on-device AI picture editing.
The ability to do various AI operations locally on the device rather than relying on the cloud is a major selling feature of Apple Intelligence.
This removes the requirement to constantly be online and also offers a stronger assurance of privacy. Additionally, it appears that the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor has enough capability to enable on-device AI picture editing.
Special features for different chipsets were noted in the code that was discovered. The “FEATURE_GEN_EDIT_ON_DEVICE” function of the Snapdragon 8 Elite essentially speaks for itself. Other tools were also mentioned, although it’s unclear if they can function without the cloud.
Samsung incorporates new AI technologies into its flagship phones in a number of ways, including this one. The Galaxy S25 series will be accompanied with a redesigned Bixby AI assistant that is powered by LLM. The iPhone 16 would be outperformed by the new Bixby if it lives up to my expectations.
Additionally, the code confirmed that Snapdragon processors will power the whole S25 family. For the S25 phones, no Exynos or other chipsets were mentioned.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s entire leaked specifications sheet indicates that, although being fairly similar to its predecessor, the phone will still be a powerful device. To enhance on-device AI performance, 16 GB of RAM, which hasn’t been available since the Galaxy S21 Ultra, is probably also a possibility.
With good reason, all of the leading phone makers are investing heavily in AI. I think it really helps in a number of areas, even if some people might find it bothersome.
The capabilities that artificial intelligence (AI) on phones will have in a few years are much beyond image production and photo editing.
