Porsche Design Unveiled $11,000 Watch To Commemorate 75 Years Of Porsche

Throughout 2023, Porsche Design will commemorate the automaker’s 75th birthday with events like the big display at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. By purchasing the new Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition chronograph, fans of the German company may wear a piece of the celebration. It recently went on sale for $11,000 with a restricted quantity of 475 pieces.

Only 475 Pieces Of The Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition Are Available

The Porsche Design Werk 01.140 caliber movement, which has accuracy certification from the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), powers the Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition. A running second display at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, a large red chronograph second hand, and a day and date window at 3 o’clock are just a few of the features on the dial.

The production number out of 475 pieces is engraved on the case back along with the 75Y logo. The winding rotor has the Porsche emblem in the center and is styled like the traditional five-spoke Fuchs wheel.

Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition Watch Strap

The dial has a diameter of 40.80 mm and a height of 14.15 mm. The watch has a 100-foot (10-bar) water resistance rating. The 25, jewel Werk 01.140 caliber movement beats at 28,800 beats per hour. A 48-hour power backup is available.

A textile leather strap with light-blue stitching and a red stripe running across the middle is an option for the watch. A black leather strap with black stitching is also included. They can be quickly changed out thanks to a quick-change mechanism.

The chronograph on the dashboard of the Mission X electric supercar concept (seen below) combines design ideas with the Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition. Both were influenced by the original Porsche Design Chronograph 1 from 1972. The watch was revolutionary at the time due to its antireflective matte-black display, casing, and strap. It had a timer and displays for the day and date, among other functions.

The Chronograph 1 was well-liked. In the 1970s, the German military adopted it with a few changes but without the black cover. In Top Gun, Tom Cruise wore one as well. Mario Andretti is shown wearing one in a blog post from the Revolution watch company.

In 1972, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche started Porsche Design and created the legendary 911. The company’s initial product was the Chronograph 1.
