According to the interim information minister, 30 to 40 “terrorists” participating in the “May 9 mayhem” have sought sanctuary in the former prime minister’s home.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was given 24 hours to “hand over terrorists seeking refuge in Zaman Park” on Wednesday by interim Punjab Information Minister Amir Mir.
He said at a news conference that the former prime minister’s Zaman Park home had provided safe haven for 30 to 40 “terrorists” who took part in the “May 9 mayhem” after PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s imprisonment.
He said that those who attacked the Corps Commander of Lahore were among those hiding out at Zaman Park.
The Punjab Police is to receive these terrorists from PTI. The PTI leadership has been given 24 hours by the Punjab interim government, according to Mir.
“PTI is acting like an anti-state party and its Chairman Imran Khan has been targeting the military for more than a year,” he continued.
The Punjab interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, according to him, “has given a free hand to police to capture the arsonists,” and the violent events that followed Imran’s arrest last week were planned in advance.
The minister emphasized that the Punjabi government had enacted a “zero tolerance policy” for anyone who planned, encouraged, and committed acts of violence.
“The federal government, military leadership, and Punjab government have decided to punish the attackers,” he said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared earlier this week that “perpetrators, planners, and facilitators” of the violence on May 9 should not be spared at any price.
After presiding over the National Security Committee meeting, he stressed in a televised speech that “even the prime minister of Pakistan should not be allowed to pardon the culprits.”
He grieved that the Lahore Jinnah House (Corps Commander House) had been damaged and set on fire by the offenders.
“Jinnah House is sacred, and it was destroyed during the wave of violence,” claimed PM Shehbaz.
The PM said that “terrorism” applied to the attack’s perpetrators, planners, and facilitators.
After Imran was detained, riots broke out across Pakistan and turned violent.
At least eight individuals were murdered and close to 2,000 people were jailed.
Hundreds of demonstrators attacked and set fire to government buildings, police cars, and other public vehicles while rampaging through army sites. They also blocked key roads leading into and out of all major cities.
After Imran’s release was mandated by the Pakistani Supreme Court on May 11, the demonstrations subsided.
