The government has declined to offer a one-time exception for antique automobile imports. The trade ministry had presented a case to the cabinet in this respect at a meeting held last week.
The participants were notified by the Commerce Division that the Import Policy Order (IPO) 2020, Appendix-C, Clause 10 indicated that the import of second hand/used automobiles was prohibited, save for those explicitly exempted under Chapter 87. Pakistanis are prohibited from importing secondhand automobiles, even vintage vehicles.
The Federal Board of Revenue (Revenue Division) issued SRO 833(I)/2018 on July 3, 2018, imposing a $5,000 per unit cumulative levy on the importation of antique cars/jeeps (PCT 8703) over 50 years old.
The SRO, however, could not be implemented due to the Import Policy Order’s prohibition on the import of historic automobiles.

Dealers claim that the FAW V2 has been discontinued in Pakistan.
While the firm has not publicly stated that the model would be phased out, its approved dealerships in the country have told Business Recorder that they are no longer accepting new bookings for the FAW V2 according to company directives.
The move, according to a dealer, was motivated by a number of factors, including low sales data.
Last year, sales of the 1,300cc car fell, and the launch of Proton further reduced revenue from the FAW V2 portfolio.
The Al-Haj Automotive Group launched the FAW V2 in Pakistan in 2014 as a less expensive alternative to the Suzuki Swift. The hatchback had a 1300cc engine that produced 90 horsepower and 120 Nm of torque and was connected to a 5-speed manual transmission at the time.
The firm began producing it domestically within three years. However, you can no longer reserve a car. It has been reported on the market that it has been discontinued.
“Its sales decreased considerably,” the firm says, avoiding disclosing that the V2 has been withdrawn. However, the major cause is that component manufacture in China has ceased. It has also been phased out in South Africa, where right-hand drive automobiles are used in the same way as in Pakistan.”
Last year, however, the FAW V2’s price increased multiple times to Rs. 1.61 million, making the car no longer a cheap choice for customers. However, it should be noted that the competition was still more costly, since other Pakistani automakers increased their prices.
Despite the fact that the V2 was nothing out of the usual and had its own set of problems, the firm did pay attention to customer complaints and did its best to address them, such as recognized gear difficulties and cabin wind noise.

Changan Pakistan has hiked rates throughout its whole portfolio by Rs120,000, just a month after lowering prices. The company cited rising freight and delivery costs as the reason for the rise.
After announcing the Alsvin sedan’s debut price in January, the Chinese automaker raised the price of its two automatic models by up to Rs101,000 barely two months later in March.
Changan was one of the last automakers to lower automobile prices in July, following the government’s announcement of different incentives. The new policies were designed to relieve the load on the general public, stimulate vehicle sales, and encourage local businesses. Reduced sales tax and extra customs charge were among the numerous incentives given.
The firm told its authorised dealerships on Tuesday that all of its vehicles will be sold at reduced rates, according to a circular published on Tuesday. The Covid-19 has resulted in increased freight charges and total shipment costs, according to the report.
The circular continued, “The firm has no alternative but to pass on part of the increased costs to the product price,” and asked dealers to explain the situation to customers.
According to the notice, all Alsvin versions have witnessed a price increase of Rs120,000. Alsvin 1.3 M/T is now available at a lower price of Rs2,269,000, down from Rs2,149,000. Similarly, the price of the Alsvin 1.3 DCT has increased to Rs2,519,000 from Rs2,399,000 previously. Alsvin Lumiere 1.5 DCT is now priced at Rs2,709,000, up from Rs2,589,000 before. Karvaan and Karvaan plus would now cost Rs1,519,000 and Rs1,659,000, respectively, after a Rs120,000 price increase. Similarly, the Changan M9’s price has increased from Rs1.234,000 to Rs1,354,000.
Ateeq Ur Rehman, an economic and financial analyst, has claimed that freight rates by road, air, and sea are becoming more expensive with each passing day, emphasizing that competition is raising the cost of doing business for both importers and exporters.
