Jeddah Will Host The Saudi Arabia F1 Event At Least Through 2027

Jeddah Will Host The Saudi Arabia F1 Event At Least Through 2027

January 20, 2023 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit, which was planned to be the grand prix’s temporary home until it moved to the newly constructed city of Qiddiya on the outskirts of Riyadh, staged Saudi Arabia’s inaugural F1 event in 2021.

However, with a lot of the temporary facilities at the track being converted to permanent ones, Jeddah is now anticipated to host the event for at least another four years while construction on the cutting-edge facility proceeds.

According to Martin Whitaker, CEO of the Saudi Motorsport Company, which organizes the race, “it’s important that we future proof the Jeddah track. For this reason, we have again been working with the FIA and Formula 1 to ensure that we have a circuit that will allow us to stage the sport in Jeddah while work begins on the track in Qiddiya.”

The Qiddiya Automotive Center is being developed to be the best Formula 1 circuit and entertainment venue in the world. Everyone will want to visit Qiddiya since it is a distinctive and fascinating undertaking.

However, Jeddah and the Red Sea shoreline in March will be in the spotlight right now and for the foreseeable future.

After agreeing to a date exchange with Australia, Saudi Arabia is expected to host the opening round of the 2024 Formula One season. This would avoid conflicting with the holy month of Ramadan, which runs from 10 March to 9 April.

Whitaker insisted that more discussions with F1 and the FIA were necessary to determine the precise grand prix scheduling and schedule.

Naturally, it would be difficult to conduct a Grand Prix during Ramadan due to its sacredness, although Formula 1 and the FIA ultimately have the last say in the date of the event the following year.

So, with reference to our 2024 date, we are awaiting information from the promoter and regulatory body. This won’t be disclosed until much later in the year, as usual.

Drivers and team managers held discussions into the early hours of Saturday about perhaps calling off the rest of the weekend, but safety precautions were put in place, and the weekend went on as planned.

Prior to the 2023 race, discussions between race organizers and drivers were held, and Whitaker stated that safety was still of “utmost concern to everyone who attends the race.”

It is our responsibility as a promoter to make sure that fans feel secure while they are in the city and at the track, he continued.

It has been a major goal in the year since the race in March to emphasize this message to the Formula 1 community.

Discussions with the drivers and team principals have been a top priority, and I’d like to believe that the clear messages we and the authorities have sent have given everyone travelling to Jeddah the assurance that Saudi, like so many other races on the F1 calendar, is completely safe and that the hospitality of the Saudi people is foremost in the minds of all visitors.

Valtteri Bottas Will Join Alfa Romeo In 2022 ! Breaking News

Valtteri Bottas Will Join Alfa Romeo Formula 1 Team Next Season on A Multi-Year Deal

The racing team announced on Monday that he will join Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN for the 2022 season and beyond. The Hinwil-based team has inked a multi-year agreement with the Finnish driver, who is presently with Mercedes.
Bottas, a nine-time Grand Prix winner, joins the team as it prepares to enter the new age of Formula One, with sweeping rule changes presenting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to climb to the top of the grid.

On Wednesday, Kimi Raikkonen announced his retirement, the first in a series of announcements as the pieces of the driver market puzzle come into place.

This week, Mercedes will confirm that George Russell will join the world champion team as a substitute for Bottas.

Bottas will be reunited with team principal Fred Vasseur, with whom he previously worked at ART in F3 in 2009 and 2010, as well as in GP3 in 2011, when he won the title.

“I’m starting a new chapter in my racing career,” Bottas remarked. “I’m thrilled to be joining Alfa Romeo for 2022 and beyond, where I’ll be taking on a new challenge with an iconic brand.”

Bottas had a less successful year in 2018, with no victories, while his teammate won the world title. The distance between Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas was increasing, but the Finn demonstrated his importance as a second driver again in 2019 and 2020, placing second in the world championship.

However, Mercedes has decided to discontinue their collaboration with Bottas due to a bad start to the 2021 Formula One season and the emergence of young talent George Russell.

KIMI RAIKKONEN To Retire From F1 At the End of the 2021 F1 Season

September 2, 2021 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

Kimi Räikkönen, a former world champion, has announced that he would retire from Formula One at the end of the season. The 41-year-old, who won his lone drivers’ championship with Ferrari in 2007, has spent the last three years with Alfa Romeo and will retire from the sport after the calendar’s last race in Abu Dhabi in December.

Räikkönen debuted in Formula One in 2001 and was a title contender within two years, finishing second to Michael Schumacher until Fernando Alonso pipped him to the crown in 2005. In the 2007 season, the Espoo-born driver finally had his crowning moment, defeating his previous team McLaren and its drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton to win the world championship.

  • The 2007 World Champion retains the record for the most Formula One starts.
  • Finn’s 20-year career comes to a close with three seasons at Alfa Romeo.

He broke the record for most Formula One starts at the 2020 Eifel Grand Prix. Räikkönen joined Sauber-Petronas as a regular driver in 2001, having previously raced in only 23 car races.

“It wasn’t an easy choice, but it’s time to move on after this season. Despite the fact that the season is still ongoing, I want to express my gratitude to my family, all of my teams, everyone involved in my racing career, and, most importantly, all of you wonderful fans who have been supporting for me all along.

Formula One may be coming to a close for me, but there is still so much more in life that I want to do. After all of this, I’ll see you around! Regards, Kimi.”

10 fascinating facts about Kimi Raikkonen

  • He couldn’t decide between ice hockey and racing.
  • Ron Dennis is the man behind his well-known moniker.
  • On and off the track, he is a record-breaker.
  • He is a huge fan of James Hunt.
  • Between races, he once partied for 16 days straight.
  • He has never won the SPOTY Award in Finland.
  • He is the only driver to have won in all three eras: V10, V8, and hybrid.
  • He despises receiving phone calls.
  • He is the last Ferrari driver to win a championship.

Alfa Romeo guaranteed Räikkönen to continue his Formula One career far into his forties, with his 323rd start in the Eifel Grand Prix in October. He has already increased his record to 341 points heading into this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, which marks the start of the Scandinavian’s home straight.
“Truly the end of an era for our sport,” Alfa Romeo stated on Twitter. Thank you for everything; Formula One will be a different place without you. Kimi, kiitos.”

The race was red-flagged after the minimum of two laps necessary to make the result official following two tries behind the safety car. With less than 30 minutes remaining in the race, race director Michael Masi decided that the event would not be restarted.
Because 75 percent of the race distance was not completed, half points were awarded for the first time since Malaysia 2009.

  • George Russell (9 Points)

The race start sequence was halted for many hours as rain continued to pour after a delayed start and a few formation laps behind the safety car. Red Bull had the chance to repair Perez’s vehicle during this period, but he had to start from the pitlane, costing him a seventh-place finish because he was classified last.
The race was begun behind the safety car with an hour on the clock due to a brief respite in the rain, although the weather remained extremely wet. The race was red-flagged after two and a half circuits as the rain became more intense, making the event official for half points.
