Benelli Launched The New Tornado 402 Sport bike

April 3, 2023 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

The legendary Italian motorbike company Benelli has been controlled by the Chinese conglomerate Qianjiang since 2005. Even though some of Benelli’s design and development work is still carried out in Pesaro, Italy, it is well known that only a select few versions receive this distinction. However, Qianjiang’s facility in China is where the remainder of Benelli’s bikes, including the recently revealed Tornado 402, are designed and produced.

A brand-new motor and an integrated dash cam are two notable technological characteristics

Benelli’s Tornado brand has long been associated with athletic models. As was to be expected, the new Tornado 402 is a completely faired motorcycle with clip-on handles.

However, it is important to note that this sport bike’s 400cc engine capacity is significant given that it will be offered primarily in nations where 400cc motorcycles are already regarded as premium choices or in regions where licensing requirements for bikes with bigger engines are stricter. Having said that, you can expect to find this cycle in China as well as some regions of Europe.

Since Benelli hadn’t previously used one, it would have made sense for them to adapt an established 400cc twin engine from Qianjiang or QJ Motor. On the other hand, the Tornado 402 version appears to have a brand-new motor.

At 10,000 rpm, the motor generates 48 horsepower, exceeding the category A2 power limit in Europe. At 9,000 rpm, the 400 series QJ twin engine with the most output presently on the market produces 41.5 horsepower. It’s not obvious if this new two-cylinder motor is a co-rotating parallel twin with a zero-degree crankshaft like Benelli’s 500cc versions.

An extraordinary feature of the Tornado 402’s frame is an aluminium single-sided swingarm with a lower beam that beautifully accents the aluminium back wheel’s polished spoke design. A non-adjustable upside-down telescopic suspension is installed on a tubular steel frame at the front, and Marzocchi provides the adjustable shock absorber.

Nissin is in charge of the stopping system, which features two 300-millimeter front discs, a 250-millimeter back disc, and ABS as standard.

Dash cam integration is a noteworthy technical feature of the new Benelli Tornado 402. This dash monitor, which captures road conditions, is integrated into the windscreen assembly. An app can be used to capture the video to a smartphone, where it is immediately stored. This feature is crucial not only for recording pleasant journeys but also for road safety and security.

The Benelli Tornado 402 will be made available in China before being made available in the United States or Europe; sales are anticipated to start in the spring of 2023. The cost will be 31,800 yuan, which in March 2023 will be roughly $4,630 USD.
