IWC Introduces The Pink Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41

April 7, 2023 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

IWC Schaffhausen’s new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 in a vibrant pink acknowledges its relationship with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.

The team’s appearance in the next race at the Miami International Autodrome will also have the striking colors. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will wear pink-colored gloves and shoes. Team members who will be in attendance at the event in Miami will also be sporting the pink strapped team watch.

IWC Schaffhausen has been the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team’s official engineering partner for a full ten years as of 2023. IWC celebrated their fruitful collaboration, which began in 2013, with the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team only last year.

The chronograph, which IWC created as its partner’s first official team watch, honors the drive and tenacity of the team’s designers, aerodynamicists, racing engineers, strategists, and mechanics. IWC currently offers a brand-new model of this Pilot’s watch with a gorgeous Miami Pink rubber strap.

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team was unveiled during the first Miami Grand Prix a year ago and is made of incredibly robust grade 5 titanium. In the 1980s, IWC developed the first wristwatch with a titanium case and band, introducing this material as a pioneer in the watch business.

Titanium weighs around 45% less than steel and has the highest strength-to-density ratio of any metal. It is also widely used in automotive engineering to manufacture components subject to extreme stains, such as engine valves. Additionally, the corrosion-resistance and skin friendliness of titanium are impressive.

The clock features a black dial with Petronas green printing and illumination to match the team’s colors. The 69385 calibre movement, produced by IWC, powers the chronograph.

The sapphire glass back allows you to see the 242 parts of the sturdy column-wheel chronograph movement. The mainspring of this watch has a 46-hour power reserve thanks to its bi-directional pawl winding mechanism. The model has an inbuilt EasX-CHANGE system that makes strap changeover quick and simple without the use of extra equipment.

The existing version of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team (Ref. IW388108) with a green rubber strap comes in a bundle with a black calfskin strap and will continue to be sold online. The new reference on the Miami Pink rubber strap (Ref. IW388114) comes in a bundle with the green strap and can only be purchased online on IWC.com and at the Miami boutique for a limited time.

Both watches are eligible for registration under the My IWC care program and can benefit from a 6-year extension to the regular 2-year International Limited Warranty.
