The FIA Explains Why Hamilton Wasn’t Fined For The F1 Collision With Alonso

The FIA Explains Why Hamilton Wasn’t Fined For The F1 Collision With Alonso

August 29, 2022 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

During the opening lap of the Spa-Franco champs race, Alonso and his Mercedes adversary collided at Les Combes as they competed for second place.

Up the Kemmel Straight, Hamilton had an advantage over Alonso and drove to the outside in an effort to slingshot past him.

Alonso had nowhere to go as Hamilton closed the door on him on the entry to the first right-hander at Les Combes, and the two collided as the Mercedes was flung into the air.

Alonso was allowed to continue, but Hamilton was instructed to stop later on the lap due to damage to his car and what seemed to be a water leak.

Alonso expressed his displeasure with Hamilton’s driving on the team radio, criticizing his lack of attention to detail when competing against other cars.

Alonso said, “What a moron shutting the door from the outside. We were off to a great start, but this person can only drive and put the car in first.

Although the FIA stewards looked into the event, they came to the conclusion that neither driver was at fault since it was just a usual type of mishap that may occur on the first lap as vehicles battle for position.

The FIA stated in a statement: “The Stewards evaluated the video footage and found that Alonso was inside at turn 5.

“Alonso’s front wheels were in front of Hamilton’s at the turn entry. With both of his right side tyres firmly on the curb and even partially inside the curb, Alonso shifted his vehicle into the inside lane.

“Alonso never gave the impression of losing control or understeering. Alonso remained next to Hamilton as he headed into the corner’s apex, which is when the crash happened.

The Stewards determined that there was a first-lap incident with significant movement in relation to other vehicles in the opening turns and decided not to take further punishment.

Audi Will Debut In Formula 1 Year 2026

Audi Will Debut In Formula 1 Year 2026

August 26, 2022 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

The German manufacturer has long been associated with a transfer to Formula One and has sometimes expressed interest in talks of technical regulations, but it has never committed to an entry or program.

That has altered as a result of the engine regulation modifications that will take effect in 2026 and the increase in F1’s worldwide appeal.

Since F1 courted the Volkswagen Group for some months, the move by Audi has been anticipated.

F1 programmers from both Audi and sister brand Porsche have been in the works since late last year, and Herbert Diess, the departing CEO of the VW Group, effectively confirmed them in May.

Audi intended to construct its own engine and field its own squad, while Porsche was said to be working with Red Bull. This has been known for a number of months.
However, both companies had previously stated that neither project would receive the official go-ahead until the 2026 engine regulations were established, which took place earlier in August.

While cost-cutting measures are put in place, the current manufacturers have decided to remove the complicated MGU-H from the V6 turbo-hybrids.

New manufacturers, like Audi, will initially be given more dyno time and expenditure allowances.

On Friday morning, Audi posted a teaser image, promising that “more rings are coming” with a cropped image of an F1 car.

It’s unknown if an engine programme will be revealed separately or together with the team’s plans being confirmed.

Audi is anticipated to have acquired or will acquire a majority investment in Sauber, with minority ownership remaining with existing owner Finn Rausing.

With this, Audi will officially take over management of the Alfa Romeo-sponsored team, which will continue to use Ferrari engines until 2026, when it will formally become the first fully Audi-powered entry.

Daniel Ricciardo’s F1 Career Is Forever Altered By McLaren’s Choice

Daniel Ricciardo’s F1 Career Is Forever Altered By McLaren’s Choice

August 6, 2022 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

Motorsport claims that McLaren has chosen to terminate Ricciardo’s contract early.

Oscar Piastri will replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren a year early, according speculations covered by Motorsport. The British team is said to have officially informed the Australian driver of its plan to terminate Ricciardo’s contract early.

Contrary to what Alpine reports, Piastri would join McLaren as a reserve driver in 2023. However, the Woking team would be prepared to elevate him straight away if a termination deal could be achieved with Ricciardo.

The Australian, who like with Lando Norris struggled to shine at McLaren, will aim to negotiate a sizable severance compensation. His objective is to continue competing in Formula One the next season, most likely at Alpine himself to fill Fernando Alonso’s vacant seat or at Haas.

To create room for Piastri, McLaren plans to cancel Ricciardo’s 2023 Formula One contract.
According to Motorsport.com, the McLaren Formula 1 team has formally informed Daniel Ricciardo that Oscar Piastri will take his spot in the lineup for the upcoming season.

If a plan for Ricciardo’s early retirement is ultimately decided, McLaren is thought to have first signed Piastri on a reserve driver agreement for 2023, one that it hopes to upgrade to a racing seat.

As part of the initial three-year contract that he signed in early 2020, while still at Renault, Ricciardo has a fixed contract with McLaren for the next season.

In order for Ricciardo to leave the team at the conclusion of this season, he and the organisation will now need to reach an agreement on a settlement containing a hefty pay-off.

He is believed to be determined to find another seat in Formula One and has no interest in going sideways into the team’s Formula E program.

However, when McLaren expressed interest and it became clear that Piastri may be a free agent in 2023 after all, discussions stepped up and the Working team was viewed as an improvement over Williams.

Meanwhile, Ricciardo is undoubtedly towards the top of the list of potential Fernando Alonso replacements at Alpine, despite the fact that his decision to leave Renault for McLaren angered the company’s top management.

Although Ferrari technically has a claim on anyone fills the seat, Haas might potentially be a viable choice if Mick Schumacher decides to go as anticipated.

Sometimes the driver in question obtaining a seat elsewhere might have an influence on pay-off agreements like the one Ricciardo is expected to earn. Kimi Raikkonen spent two years away from Formula One after Ferrari fired him at the end of 2009, in part so he could keep the entire sum.

However, it is acknowledged that, given the funds necessary to fulfil Ricciardo’s initial contract, it is possible that, even if he secures a drive elsewhere, McLaren will continue to pay him to not compete for the team in 2023.

F1 Will Not Replace Russian GP As 2022 Calendar Stays At 22 Races

F1 Will Not Replace Russian GP As 2022 Calendar Stays At 22 Races

May 21, 2022 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

The decision leaves a two-weekend gap between the finish of the European season on September 11 in Monza and the start of the six-race flyaway series in Singapore on October 2.

Shortly after the Russian invasion on Ukraine began, the Sochi event was cancelled, along with the event’s ongoing contract.

F1 quickly began exploring for alternate locations in order to retain the overall number of races this year at 23.

Qatar was an early candidate. Last year, the country staged a race at the Doha circuit, and it will do so again in 2023. Due to its commitment to the FIFA World Cup, it had intended to skip this year.

The September date was deemed to be early enough to avoid clashing with football tournament preparations, but there were worries about the high heat and its possible influence on the turnout.

The notion of a second race in Singapore a week before the conventional grand prix and perhaps at a different time of day arose throughout the Melbourne weekend.

However, logistical concerns prevented F1 from transferring directly from a European site to Singapore.

The money was crucial to any arrangement. F1 is in a totally different scenario than it was two years ago, when certain venues offered low-cost or even no-cost solutions to keep the number of races up.

A new race would have had to make financial sense for both the teams and F1 itself, given global inflation and substantial increases in freight costs.

The confirmation will be welcomed by the teams, who are facing the difficulty of staying under budget while constructing fresh new vehicles in the midst of an already tight timetable.

Alex Albon Is Back Joins Williams For 2022 F1 Season

September 10, 2021 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

Alex Albon Returns To Formula 1 2022 Season With Williams F1

After completing an agreement to race with Williams in 2022, Alex Albon will return to the Formula One grid, while Nicholas Latifi will return for a third season with the British team.

After losing his race seat to Sergio Perez, Albon has served as a reserve and test driver for Red Bull this season. However, as it became evident that a seat with the works team or AlphaTauri was not viable, the two-time podium finisher has been lobbying for a racing return outside the Red Bull family for several months.

courtesy of F1.com For some weeks, Albon has been the favorite for a spot at Williams, with the team praising his expertise and speed. Despite criticism from top rival Mercedes, Williams’ engine supplier, Red Bull and Williams have pushed hard to make a transaction materialize.

Meanwhile, Latifi has improved his game this year, and Williams was delighted with his development and improved performance in comparison to outgoing teammate George Russell, so they were eager to keep him on.

“Alex is one of the most promising young talents in motorsport, and he has extensive F1 knowledge thanks to his stint at Red Bull. His repeated podium finishes attest to his speed as a driver, and we’re confident he’ll fit right in with the Grove team. Nicholas, on the other hand, has continually impressed us with his hard work, diligence, and good attitude throughout the last three years. As evidenced by his points scoring finishes this season, he has continued to develop during his time at Williams and has matured into an excellent F1 driver.

Its been Difficult to get back into the form when you take a year out of f1 and totally out of the practice and speed. As we see that the George Russell believe back in the 2020 that Alex Albon will be back and they all three reunite all together and Because of F1’s new technical requirements, as well as the team’s new owners, management, and technical personnel, the team is going in a more competitive path.

George Russell Joins Mercedes F1 From 2022

George Russell Joins Mercedes F1 From 2022

September 7, 2021 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

George Russell has been announced as Lewis Hamilton’s 2022 teammate after signing a long-term contract with Mercedes. Russell, 23, has been a Mercedes junior driver since 2017 and gets his opportunity after three seasons in Formula One with Williams.

Russell stated, “It’s a momentous day for me personally and professionally, but it’s also a day of mixed feelings.” “I’m both delighted and honored to be joining Mercedes next year, which is a major professional step for me, but it also means saying goodbye to my Williams teammates and friends. It’s been a privilege to work with each and every member of the team, as well as to represent the Williams name in Formula One.

“I’d be lying if I claimed I wasn’t ecstatic about the prospect of next season. It’s a tremendous chance that I want to seize with both hands. But I have no illusions about the magnitude of the task; it will be a steep learning curve.

Valtteri has established a high bar for himself, regularly producing victories, pole positions, and contributing to many championship triumphs. My goal must be to repay Toto [Wolff, Squad Principal], the team, and the board’s faith in me by ensuring that I contribute to the team’s continued success, and I want to make my new teammates proud.

Russell, who also paid respect to Williams, said, “It’s a big chance that I want to seize with both hands.” “However, I have no illusions about the magnitude of the task; it will be a steep learning curve.”

Mercedes evaluated the known quantity of Bottas – who has battled but failed to defeat seven-time champion Hamilton over the course of a season – against their emerging F1 prodigy, Russell.

In the end, they chose the man who, in addition to blazing down the grid at Williams, excelled in his one-off outing in the Mercedes last December in Bahrain when standing in for Hamilton.

Pieree Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda have been confirmed as Alpha Tauri drivers for the 2022 Formula One season

September 7, 2021 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda have been announced as AlphaTauri’s drivers for the 2022 Formula One season. The two drivers have been honoured for their contributions and excellent achievements thus far in the 2021 season. Tsunoda joins Gasly at the club for the 2021 season.

For the 2021 season, Tsunoda has joined Gasly’s team. Despite his inconsistent performance, the team decided to extend his contract.

Gasly finished third in this year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, started and finished fourth over the weekend at Zandvoort, and is now ninth in the Drivers’ standings.

Tsunoda, on the other hand, came into Formula One with a great reputation but has failed to live up to it so far, with a succession of crashes and failures to make it to the second half of qualifying sessions stalling his development.
He has, however, scored 18 points and has been granted a second opportunity in 2022 to return Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko’s trust in him.

The 21-year-old remarked, “I’m extremely happy to be continuing with Scuderia AlphaTauri for a second season.”

“It’s a great opportunity, and I’m grateful to the team and Dr. Marko for allowing me to expand my Formula 1 expertise.

“I have a wonderful connection with Pierre; I’ve already learnt a lot from him this year, and his expertise has allowed me to continue to develop my own talents, so it’s fantastic to be continuing my F1 adventure with him.

“Having recently relocated to Faenza, I am settling in well with the club and am excited for the next season.”

Valtteri Bottas Will Join Alfa Romeo In 2022 ! Breaking News

Valtteri Bottas Will Join Alfa Romeo Formula 1 Team Next Season on A Multi-Year Deal

The racing team announced on Monday that he will join Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN for the 2022 season and beyond. The Hinwil-based team has inked a multi-year agreement with the Finnish driver, who is presently with Mercedes.
Bottas, a nine-time Grand Prix winner, joins the team as it prepares to enter the new age of Formula One, with sweeping rule changes presenting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to climb to the top of the grid.

On Wednesday, Kimi Raikkonen announced his retirement, the first in a series of announcements as the pieces of the driver market puzzle come into place.

This week, Mercedes will confirm that George Russell will join the world champion team as a substitute for Bottas.

Bottas will be reunited with team principal Fred Vasseur, with whom he previously worked at ART in F3 in 2009 and 2010, as well as in GP3 in 2011, when he won the title.

“I’m starting a new chapter in my racing career,” Bottas remarked. “I’m thrilled to be joining Alfa Romeo for 2022 and beyond, where I’ll be taking on a new challenge with an iconic brand.”

Bottas had a less successful year in 2018, with no victories, while his teammate won the world title. The distance between Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas was increasing, but the Finn demonstrated his importance as a second driver again in 2019 and 2020, placing second in the world championship.

However, Mercedes has decided to discontinue their collaboration with Bottas due to a bad start to the 2021 Formula One season and the emergence of young talent George Russell.

KIMI RAIKKONEN To Retire From F1 At the End of the 2021 F1 Season

September 2, 2021 / By Zunair Tahir / Automotive News

Kimi Räikkönen, a former world champion, has announced that he would retire from Formula One at the end of the season. The 41-year-old, who won his lone drivers’ championship with Ferrari in 2007, has spent the last three years with Alfa Romeo and will retire from the sport after the calendar’s last race in Abu Dhabi in December.

Räikkönen debuted in Formula One in 2001 and was a title contender within two years, finishing second to Michael Schumacher until Fernando Alonso pipped him to the crown in 2005. In the 2007 season, the Espoo-born driver finally had his crowning moment, defeating his previous team McLaren and its drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton to win the world championship.

  • The 2007 World Champion retains the record for the most Formula One starts.
  • Finn’s 20-year career comes to a close with three seasons at Alfa Romeo.

He broke the record for most Formula One starts at the 2020 Eifel Grand Prix. Räikkönen joined Sauber-Petronas as a regular driver in 2001, having previously raced in only 23 car races.

Formula One may be coming to a close for me, but there is still so much more in life that I want to do. After all of this, I’ll see you around! Regards, Kimi.”

  • On and off the track, he is a record-breaker.
  • He is a huge fan of James Hunt.
